Suzuki Ignis 4Grip - Sensitive to tyres???

Looking at an Ignis 4Grip for sale locally, its got a dented tailgate and parking by braille scabs on the bumper corners where the one elderly owner has parked it.

On the plus side however it is cheap and has a FSSH, which is nice.

How sensitive are these things to tyre changes? Its got two new fronts and the rears are down to about 2mm, I seem to remember the Cavalear 4x4 was very sensitive to different tyres front and rear and had a habit of engaging the 4x4 system at speed and mashing the transfer box.

Somewhere i have read that these are "sesitive to different tyre sizes" but does that mean shoving a 14" on one end and a 13" on the other or does that extend to the difference that 5mm of tread would make?

Suspect it would just cause a bit* of transfer box noise/ whine if new tyres of the same size were mixed with worn front to back. Don't imagine anything catastrophic would occur unless the wheels were of different diameters etc.

Depends whether a viscous centre diff is fitted. They don't like too much difference between axle speeds, though I've never been entirely convinced that it actually makes that much difference. My Rangie had brand new tyres on the back and part-worns on the front and seemed to survive.

If it's selectable four-wheel drive (can't recall what the Ignis has) then it's no bother at all.

No, its an automatic selection thingy based on what speed each wheel is doing.

EDIT

Apparently aged 4Grips can cause large wallet based grief

For shits and giggles you could always bang a set of part worn Stomils on and see what the automatic 4 wheel drive does next.

My prediction:
