Hi guys,

Hopefully going to try an S plate Honda CRV over the weekend.

Looks very good, newish tyres,11 months test and 5 months tax.

Seller looking for about a grand, anyone got any experience of these?

Looks a bit geography teacherish, but surely can't go wrong at that price?

Oh, its got 134k on the clock.

Cheers.

Loads of them out there. Be fussy.

I bought a Mk 2 2003 model, with 145k on it immaculate with one owner from brand fire new for 1900 squids. Couldn't be happier, but I looked at a good half dozen before I found this one, some with supposed low mileages etc. Condition and providence is everything at this money.

Buy a nice one and they are way better than a Freelander etc.

They can do big mileages but obviously lower is usually better. I had a 2001 Y plate model a couple of years ago, 3 owners and fsh with 79k and it was excellent, just a bit thirsty, 20mpg is pretty normal which isn't great for a 2.0.

When test driving, find a car park and do several circles on full lock, if there's a grumbling from the rear end, the diff needs its oil changing which is no big deal. They get contaminated with moisture if left untouched for years if I recall and it often gets forgotton but it will be fine if caught in time, mine grumbled on the test but I had them change the oil before I bought it and it was silent for the whole time I owned it.

Also stay away from ones that have been towing caravans, they have an unusually low towing weight for a 4x4 and clutches don't last if they've been lugging heavy trailers.

Aside from that, nothing much. A good one will last years, I often wish I'd kept mine.

If you can, pull all of the seatbelts out fully (slowly, because if they click, they stop, and you have to rewind them.....) As on some models the rears used to chew themselves up on the reels..... And £££.... Rear tyre wear on 4x4 models, cambelt history, and if a steel sump instead of aluminium, watch for corrosion that turns into oil leaks.

Thanks guys, good advice as ever!

I've had a look underneath it and there's no sign of any kind of leak and everything looks straight, it also looks like its got a newish exhaust.

Interior looks minty.
