Anyone feeling brave?

Are you really sure about the failure? Looked this problem up and in German Renault 25 Forum I found that probably a voltage problem (alternator) could affect that the reverse relais would not engage.

Sounds like a heart-breaking dilemma....Whatever you have to do, I hope someone else will save it if you're unable to....It's far too nice to merely scrap surely? :(

Obviously it's your car and your money but if you ask me, using the logic that "the car is worth £500 so it's not worth spending £500 on it is the wrong sort of thinking. You have to look at where that spend will get you. If it's a fully working decent car that you trust it ought to be worth it. If you buy some other car it could be a heap of s*** that needs a huge amount of money spent on it to get it into a state suitable for daily driving.

My car needs a new cam belt every 5 years and even at a local specialist the replacement costs £800. The car is barely worth that but once the belt is replaced I have a decent reliable car that drives better than some piece of new german tin costing £30k with stupid wheels, rock hard ride and leather that is more like vinyl.

The price you've quoted for the replacement box with fitting seems pretty reasonable. It sounds a shame to scrap the car for that problem. Good luck in scraping together the funds,
