Cheers for the tips re the stereo and the pronunciation - I thought "Zeedos" was correct following the "Zantia" rule...

Tayne they have something shite like "ASM motorsport" written on the very faded centre caps. Pretty sure they're cheap shit.

This does look remarkably similar to what I know as the Lantis:

...which, despite looking larger, is related to this shape of 323:

There is a 2.0 V6 ZXi version of that 323F with five stud wheels (I'd love one). They're not uncommon, so may be a source of parts, and the ZXi boys would love those wheels. Offer them as a part-ex for some standard ones.

The 1.5 and 1.8 323s have four stud wheels, and (probably) a different rear brake set up. Good luck with it, I hope it lives on.

Yup, Lantis/Astina/323 is closely related to the Xedos underneath.

I'm conflicted about these Xedoses. I always thought the shape was stunning - still do - and briefly had a Eunos 500 (same car, different badge) a few years ago on the strength of that. As has been said the engine spins up beautifully - it's a really nice motor, defines the car, although it's not the most soulful thing around.

However...

...the driving position was never right for me - the wheel was weirdly offset relative to the seat and pedals, and when the seat was set comfortably for everything else I found I was straining to push the clutch pedal to the very end of its travel. I also felt the interior looks nicer in pics than in reality - there are some pretty cheap details in some prominent places. As well - and to be fair this could have just been a problem with my car (I didn't have it long enough to bother finding out) - compared to other Mazdas the steering was overly-light and a bit glutinous, comprehensively feel-free to the point where I found it difficult to accurately place the car in corners. It was a car I really wanted to like but to be brutally honest I came away a bit disappointed.

Having said that, for 200 quid I guess you can't go wrong really.

I remember these from the old BTCC races. I think Patrick Watts managed to keep them on the track more often than he did the Puggy 406s he drove afterwards.

Hello, been browsing for a while but seeing this prompted me to sign up..

Great car, and handle quite well apart from slightly inert steering; if you come to it and find it will not start, its probably the distributor. It usually says on the dash 'immobiliser' or somesuch, but its normally the contacts etc. This was a very expensive lesson.

Otherwise, good luck with it, hope you enjoy it!

Glad this prompted you to sign up Citroff, and cheers for the tip!

I'd be the coolest guy in town driving around with that T Shirt on in my Xedos. Particularly if I decided to cover the leather with the leopardskin lurking below it in the pictures!!

Yo R9UKE! Have you still got that lovely* proton persona in your fleet?

Thankfully not. I noticed quite a puddle of oil under the car each morning, took it to my cheap as chips mechanic who said it was leaking from three places, and would need the timing belt removed and replaced to rectify. Put it back through the auction and got my money back! All that remains are precious memories of the millimetre thick steel resonating :D
