OMG Y U NO POST ON THE STUPID QUESTION THREAD?!!1!

The radio in the Granada had expired way back from two owners ago, and today I finally got round to removing it. It will be replaced by a modern item that can read SD cards. Before that can be done, I need to buy a wiring harness adaptor. But I can't do that unless I know whether my system is amplified or not. Short of ripping the dashboard apart in order to follow the cables all the way to the speakers, is there a way of knowing which one I've got?

I think the "amplified" ones have a DIN-sized unit below the head unit, pretty much a blank face on, but labelled as an amplifier.

That's what they tended to do around mid-late-80s vintage on the high spec Fords.

Edit: If this picture works, like this:

It's got an equaliser down there. I guess that means it must be amplified?

If your stereo set up looks like that then I think it's got a amp, I'm pretty sure all you have to do is unplug it all and just connect the aftermarket ISO leads, leaving the equalizer redundant.

I would imagine so, the graphic equaliser must take a line-level from the head unit and amplify it, could you not just whip it out and see which unit the speakers plug in to?

What year & spec is your Granada?

this will do most of them up to about 1990

this should do the others

If your radio has a tray underneath it there might be an amp behind the dash on the passenger side if so all you need to do is extend the speaker leads on the adaptor lead to reach it , but somtimes the amp lead will reach the radio

Once you have fitted your new radio and removed the graphic you can fit one of these :)
