At last - it runs!

After months of faffing about I have managed to get Pete's old SD1 going today.

 

In the end I have started form scratch - timed up as per the book, battery charged and a blast of easy start - it went straight away.

 

 

Engine ticks over, but is lumpy and seems to pop and bang - I will need the services of somebody with a timing light. When revved there is a fair bit of smoke, even the downpipes are smoking as they burn off 18 months of accumulated crud.

 

I think a weak battery, wet plugs and timing that was slightly out have thwarted my attempts to get it running.

 

I have come back into the house for a bit otherwise I will choke to death.

Well done for that - however dont forget petrol can go off / stale. It can run like a bag of spanners due to that.

I have had it running again so I can carry topping up the coolant - it ticks over at a steady speed.
