Clearout continues: Audi, anyone?

1993 Audi 80TDi Avant (estate).

1.9TDi, been told it's the 90 horse one and it pulls fine. Runs on veg oil which is either free or a quid a litre depending where you go! Lowered, has coil over on the front and a lovely stance as the rear sits slightly higher. 16" aftermarket alloys and spigot rings. The world is your lobster with wheels as these are 4x108 fitment. Not long since been machine polished so looks nice and shiney!

Owned this car a fair while now and been all over the shop in it. It's been reliable (though see below) economical and very useful as well as a great laugh to drive.

Towbar is a lightweight one, we fitted it ourselves and it was genuinely used to tow a small boat trailer about 4 times at most.

Problems:

Fuel pump u/s. We've stripped it (the top part) and found the problem. It probably needs another pump which are about £65 and up on the bay and elsewhere.

NO MOT, we'd done pads and drop links just before the pump went and I would only expect it to fail on the tyres but I have at least two good ones here I'll include.

It will try and fire up and I will give a guarantee that the engine is good.

Interior a bit tatty, driver's seat the worse.

Wheels need a rub down and spray, they're actually in good nick it's just the pain that lets them down.

Obviously it'll have to be collected by trailer or whatever.

Sad to see it go but it's in the way now and I have far too much other stuff to deal with at the moment.

£250, it's in Chester, Cheshire very close to the motorways etc.

Need it gone hence the price, it's taking up valuable garage space that could be used by my new toy/s!

Original dampers or were they replaced with something different with the springs? Do you have the originals?

Okay,I'm still interested. Do you know what is wrong with the pump? Also I would need a way to transport it down to the midlands but logistics can't get in the way of a shite purchase!

I haven't got the originals (I didn't lower the car it was like that when I got it) but the previous owner is a mate of mine and he did have them fairly recently so could find out if wanted.

I think the rears are some sort of fancy 'coil over' things but I've honestly no idea about this kind of stuff.

Metrobi:

The top pump seals were leaking so I replaced them, cleverly* not listening to the advice about lining some sort of plunger type thing up  Anyhow after that it would only run if we piss-arsed about with some sort of soldered track thing on the pump and then just for a split second or so.

Previously every now and then (perhaps every 6-8 weeks or longer) the car would cut out when driving then start again anywhere between 5 minutes and one hour. The RAC came out the last time and said no problem with fuel and typically as he arrived the bastard started first time.

Now, looking at the pump as is (with top cover off) we can see a sort of soldered track which an arm runs across. On the bottom of this arm are two brushes very much like the ones on the bottom of a Scalextric car. One of said bushes looks knackered and we suspect that was the previous problem as it must have stopped making full contact occasionally.

I would think (but not guarantee) that the top part of the pump is interchangeable with newer VAG stuff such as the A4 though I'm told it'd need to be from a 90 brake model.

Failing that trawling eBay reveals pumps from anywhere between £65 and incredibly stupid amounts from cock weasels who think a second hand one is worth £600 or something.

Oh, as for transporting it I'd imagine someone off Shipley would probably do it cheap enough. Or there's another possible way that may work and may be free.

Shameless bump.

Sorry, been a little preoccupied. Free way, you say? Interested, very interested. In need of a heavy oil burner as the commute in the equally dull but boringly reliable A4 is getting pricey. An estate would be useful too for carting tools around.
