Metal fuel tank cleaning

My friends Renault 11 Turbo has been sitting around for a long time and the fuel went manky.

He is going to remove the tank,and needs to clean it out but whats the best way to do this and remove the gunk in it,clean fuel is pumping up,but theres a layer of gunge at the bottom.

I've had success with slinging a bit of old chain in there and shaking it about a bit, then rinse it out with some old fuel a load of times (use a sieve to get the bits of shite out of the old fuel then tip it back in(

When it's thoroughly clean and dry, use a product called "Frost's POR-30" to seal the tank against any corrosion flakes from affecting the fuel feed in the future.
