This must be the big society in action... Getting petrol stations to police uninsured drivers, so we can sell the police forces to a consortium of banks and oil companies.

1984 was just a novel, right?

So what would happen if I have an insurance policy for my car that also insures me to drive any other car 3rd party (which I have)......so if I am then driving for example a mate's car (totally legally & insured, but my docs. are in my own car, obviously), where would that leave me?

In the clear, as the vehicle wouldn't ping up on the ANPR because it's insured by the keeper.

Well, yes, quite! It wasn't written as a Policy Document or Instruction Manual... ;)

In answer to your second sentence and some other posts, the trick is to steal some plates from a car outwardly identical to yours and abuse them (bilking, traffic camera offences etc) for a few days at the most; the trail will be cold by the time the Registered Keeper gets the "paperwork" from the feds and enters a world of shit in which they are suspected of not being truthful. Or so *ahem* I am led to believe ;) - but *this* is why we need policepersons out there en masse doing, you know, police work as opposed to a string of ANPR cameras working off out-of-date databases :( .

What a feckin' shambles.

I assume that if YOU hit an uninsured driver, don't bother calling the insurance co.

If you hit an uninsured driver, you're screwed worse than if you hit an insured driver.

The cops can't be arsed chasing up accidents caused by uninsured drivers, but they'd sure as fuck make it their mission to come after you...

It's like getting in trouble for shooting someone who's broken into your house - the scumbag's human rights are more important than yours.

Nothing to do with the police here unless it's an injury accident or they are called to attend for some reason. If they have attended and don't charge either driver then the two drivers sort it out if neither is insured.

P.S. I have full cover

im not overly keen for consortia doing the jobs of government, but its hardly a recently phenomenon, the whole empire was built on it. read up on foundation of the bank of England, Company rule in india and the great railway companies of the 1800's
