LofBGfHcJg it was running a front sump-bowl pre-72 essex with the lower BHP, and a serious back-pressure problem, i supplied an low milage engine from a 1979 se6a Scimitar, then the fun began Tuesday: remove all ancillaries, drop exhausts, remove radiator and pipework, remove old engine wednesday: attempt to put replacement engine in engine refuses to mate-up with the gearbox thursday: reposition straps, use more trolley jacks and brute force, try again to mate-up engine and gearbox friday: get really pished off with it, ring scaryoldcortina and pester him to manhandle it scary arrives, immediately announces the clutch fork needs to be strapped up or the engine wont go in, kick myself, kick the car etc etc friday lunchtime: after much heaving, lifting, levering and with scary straddling the engine and lifting it into place - yes he really did lift an essex by himself saturday: replace the parts removed before the engine swap and try to get it started
Bren Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 The essex V6 is a heavy old bastard of a lump, and to be fair a bit of a boat anchor - not very powerful, and with quite a few foibles. However, it makes plenty of torque, almost on a par with a stock Rover V8. Some of my mates used to be into MK1 granadas, they were always wary of V6 cars as they told me that between them they had never had a good one - there was always major faults with the motors (maybe they just bought shit ones?), they liked the 2.0 instead.
scaryoldcortina Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Autofive likes his V6, I prefer a 2 litre Not got it runnng yet then? I fixed the 4i/cossie hybrid - some plank had plugged the engine loom into the header tank level switch

autofive Posted February 23, 2012 Author Posted February 23, 2012 on backshift this week, just got home chucked the smoky engine in the back of the granada and back at scarytowers this evening took a closer look; head gasket failure piston looks undamaged though, no residue of rings in the sump, or valve damage
Lufthansa-Terminal Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Autofive I know its off this topic but will the 3 wheel Transit be back on your yourtube site? You had some good stuff on the 1st account.
