Mexican Shite

I just came back last week from a trip to Central America (Belize & Honduras) and a stop in Mexico.

Plenty of shite to be seen in Mexico but not too many pics.

I expected to see lots of shite in Belize - especially as they became independent in 1981 but did not see one solitary RHD car on the roads - most older Japanese stuff was in worse condition than you see in the UK.

Here are the cars I snapped in Cozumel:

Nissan (Renault Clio)- might be the same one I snapped last time I was here?

Nissan Tsuru:

VW Polo (with a boot)

Another VW- looks like a SEAT with a VW front end grafted on to me?

Ford Eco-sport SUV - very dinky sized!

And now for the real Mexican shite....I give you the VW Beetle.....

Possible VW ratlook candidate...?

That Beetle is horrible Gavin! There must be a real knack to entering and exiting that, with the hinges welded on there.

Mexico seems to be yet another 'developing' country where the motoring public stubbornly refuses to accept hatchbacks as THE practical city car.

Most of those little saloons do look odd, especially to our eyes, though the Polo effort seems to be the least offensive of the moderns.

The 'Tsuru' is a Sunny Super Saloon, called 'Sentra' in some markets, and shares much with the 'NV' pickup, a common sight in Thailand.

That would be the brazilian-built VW Gol.

As far as I know its entirely separate to the european stuff, the model line dates back to the 70s.

The Renault Thalia(Clio saloon) / Nissan Platina is built in Mexico.

Did you travel in a Corsa saloon?

I think they have a longer wheelbase than the hatchbacks as they have lots of rear legroom.

No - last time I was here I rented a car -but for the life of me can't remember what it was? Old age must be setting in!

A 'Chevy Chevy'! I'd roll that...! Did they do an Apple Green one for extra shite points? :)

VW Ibiza? Interesting concept... Is that the Gol? I thought that was based on a mildly updated version of the original MK1 Golf?

Yes it truly is awful indeed!

Looking at it from a distance it didn't look too drastic but upon closer inspection - I'm sure it'll be like a lot of cars in Cuba - look familiar but really absolutely buggered!

How's life in Thailand treating you - there's been a big knock on effect over here in the USA of the flooding - prices of computer hard drives have gone up 3 to 4 times in some cases!!!!

....Just when I was about to build a new system for the house too!!!!

We only head over there for the winter since we moved back to the UK in 2008. We're not there yet, we had to finish one last work contract this year before we go. In a fortnight we'll be there - until Feb - YAY!

The flooding had been BAAAAD this year, I have a flooding update to do in my spots thread, then we'll go and see what a mess the place is in.
