dieselnutjob Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 The heated rear screen seems stuffed on the browntastic 604is there a way to fix them?I am getting 14V across the screen terminals when powered on but it hardly draws any currentcondensation disappears only on one small spot in the middle of one bay which I guess means that it's the only bar working and only when water is bridging some crack in itis a new rear window the only solution?
Volksy Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 You used to be able to buy repair paint for these from car accessory places, which has worked on ones I've had, it's a case of carefully checking for any breaks in the screen element. You then mask up either side and paint the stuff on. With a bit of practice it doesn't look like it's been repaired.*edit some on ebay here
dieselnutjob Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 thanksbought someI'll let you know if it works
Shep Shepherd Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I've used that stuff successfully a couple of times on my own cars (Fiesta and Rover 200). The biggest problem was trying to find the breaks in the elements in the first place; having 20/20 vision, a magnifying glass or a multimeter is quite useful! However, I've come across a couple of cars (not mine) with defunct HRWs due to the elements corroding or coming away from the glass, which necessitated the fitment of new rear windows. I can't imagine that finding a new or good used rear pane for a 604 will be that easy nowadays, though I wonder if you could fit a proprietary HRW kit like this one in lieu of the original? http://www.ds-demist.com/buy.html The elements could be engineered to fit over the original ones
garethj Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 You might find that Autoglass or someone will have a screen with HRW in stock.
ashmicro Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 that Electrocure conductive paint does work. I've even used it successfully on a semi-frazzled server motherboard
