Cheap Renault Megane £170

A colleague at work bought my parents Renault Megane a couple of years back for his daughter. She has now bought a new car and so is getting rid of it. Her father is going to take it to the local scrapyard on Saturday but I thought I would put it on here in case anyone is interested! Unfortunately I do not have any pictures.

It is a P registration 1.6RT in a kind of dark red/burgundy colour, the MOT has just expired (yesterday). It has one problem and that is it has an oil leak from the engine which means it needs topping up regularly. However, it drives well and is fairly clean, apart from the usual areas around the rear arches. She has done a fair mileage in it including motorway driving. It seems a shame to scrap it, I know these aren't worth much though!!

I remember it being pretty quick and comfortable from when my parents had it, they had little trouble with it. It has three keys. Personally I think these were quite nice looking cars, better than the more recent ones.

If I hadn't just bought the Allegro I may have bought it off him to use as a run around for a bit.

I know this is not really Autoshite terratory (or is it) but if you are interested then let me know.

The car is in the Rowley Regis area.

Would have been quite tempted myself due to the R.Sterling saga, I just dont have funds at the moment.

£170 for a modern(ish), practical and quite pretty motor is a steal. I too liked the look of the original pre-revised Megane with the smoked rear lights. As long as the grot isn't too bad, would polish up respectfully and it gets through an MOT, I suspect the new owner (if indeed it gets one) should be able to near enough double their money on that.

I hope it does find a new home.

Speaking of Renault's of this era, I’ve only had my 'S' plate Kangoo van a few months and I bought it for £250 – with some tax and test. It’s going this weekend sadly (lets just say some large unexpected outgoings are coming up), but has proven to be a reliable hack even with excess of 140k on the clock. I doubt it'll get through it's October MOT without the driver's sill being replaced through.

It wasn't too bad when my parents had it, I haven't seen it for a couple of years though but I doubt it has got that bad. I think it went through the last MOT fine!!

I think the oil leak is the real problem, unless you can do it yourself I wouldn't think it was worth doing!!

Last chance to save this fine and beautiful example of Gallic motoring from the great scrapyard in the sky!!

Or..............does anyone want a cheap car from a maker with a dubious reliabilty record before it goes over the bridge!!
