1983 Mazda 323 Coil - quick question...

Chappy near me has the above and tells me that he is having trouble getting a new coil. He said can he use a universal one on it??

 

I said that I thought if the connections were the same it would probably work but was surprised he can't find a replacement.

 

Any ideas? It's a 1.3 FWD one by the way, like Mat-T's old one.

Something repressed deep in my memory is telling me that these have the HT coil built into the distributor for some strange reason.... Maybe that's why he can't get a replacement/use a universal.

I think i just put a intermotor one on mine, cant remember the part number but it was readily available from the motor factors, shared with lots of other jap-tat. The ignition module is built in to the dizzy but the coil is a normal one.
