Fiat Coupe starting problem

Recommended Posts

I let the battery flatten on my Coupe so put in on charge today. After 7 hours I tried to start it but only get a machine gun like sound from it. Jammed starter? Any ideas what's going on and what I can do?

Thanks

Sounds very much like a jammed starter. Hit it a whack with a lump of wood (not too hard though!)

I think it's a Fiat Coupe, good luck finding enough space to whack the starter.

They're only held in by two big bolts, if the hammer does nothing, take it out and try spinning it. Either the solenoid could be jammed or the motor - I'd avoid trying to start it in case it is jammed on the flywheel and damages it.

If the noise is a less abrasive machine gun sound, your battery might be totally dead, and that's the noise of the solenoid going in and out.

We've 2 of these.

I'd wager its the battery -but if substitution makes no difference, rock it gentle in 4th. That'll knock it out of engagement.

Thanks fellas - I've got it on fast charge now and will give it another go this evening.
