***JDM*** Japanese Diesel Machines!!??

Hi all.....

I got chatting to a mate of mine yesterday and he's just about to get rid of his Beemer 328i and get an early 90s diesel Merc purely so he can have a cool car that he can run on cooking oil while fuel prices are silly!

I loved this idea.......BUT I'm much more of a J man at heart lol

I was thinking, are there any fairly cool Retroish (with potential!!) J cruisers out there that I could get to smoke about in and make smell like a chip shop (mmmmm)?

Ideally under or around £500 but may pay more for the right car?

Are J engines ok with the cooking oil thing?

IDE like a medium to slightly bigger saloon or wagon ideally but may consider the obvious diesel vans and pickups! Just something cheap with slamming potential lol.

Any ideas people??

Cheers all........... Oh and have a pic to say thanks.......

Most Japanese diesels feature Bosch injection pumps built under license in Japan so good for vegetable oil.

To be honest, most Japanese diesel engines were a bit backwards in the 1990s, most European alternatives will be nicer to drive and more economical.

An old Cedric or Laurel with an RD28 is mega appealing.

I was thinking more '90s stuff. I liked my Primera 2.0D, it was nice enough to drive until any hills got in the way.

I think those six pots might have an in-line pump which is GR8 4 RUNNIN ON SHITE
