A (plus) engine - better in bits or not?

Casually looking for local garage tools earlier, I happened across this engine, which I duly lobbed a bid on and won...

It was listed (badly) as a 999cc unleaded unit from a Metro (ha!), so presumably has some Mini worth?

Is it best to split it up into components (U/L head, pistons, block etc) or bung the whole lot back on the bay as one? (I am keeping the engine stand!)

The Mini-ists prefer the 1275, even better if it's a Metro Turbo unit. Still, you shouldn't have too much bother shifting it on complete.

Sell it on complete do you know what size it is, i.e. what does the back of it look like?

also worth checking the engine number, if it starts with a '12' its a 1275 and you can sell it to a mini bumma for TEH DOLLARZ.

Has it got the gearbox as well? I need a new engine and box for my Allegro!
