Not been able to find any trace of this one on the net so far, but not searched for a while.

Used to be on weekdays mid-late morning during the school holidays one year, circa 1982ish possibly BBC1.

I thought it was called California Dreaming, or something very similar. US Based 18-25 year olds larking about in the summer. The dominant memory of this was their car, the main interest of the show. It was a massive bright yellow open top LWB jeep kind of thing, which lately I've worked out was almost certainly an International Harvester Scout II, a car that impressed me at the time even more than Colt Seaver's GMC pick up.

Can't find anything on the IMCDB about this show.

Anyone put me out of my

EDIT: More likely to have been the mid-late teens market in fact.

And I think they all had a nickname for the car, pretty sure they called it The Grossmobile.

I'm starting to think I dreamt that summer.

Anyway it looked like this (without roof):

From the internet....

California Dreams is a show about a group of high school teens that form their own band, The California Dreams. The show follows the group through their problems in high school as well as their problems in trying to score a record deal. All actors sang their own songs in each and every episode, with the exception of Jay Anthony Franke & Aaron Jackson

Aired 1992-97.

Close but that can't be the show Mr. Claim, the one I meant was at least 10 years prior to that one, probably more.

That's it!!!

"This hour-long CBS show, an attempt at catering to the late 70’s youth market, would probably make for a pretty interesting time capsule today. It focused on Vince and Ross, two teenage buddies enjoying the Southern California lifestyle. Vince also ran a pirate radio station, using the home of his buddy Rick as the studio. Ross was a wizard with cars and had his own super-customized oddity of a car, known to one and all as the ‘Grossmobile.’ There was also a female member of the gang, Laurie.

The stories revolved around this quartet of teens as they cruised for fun and encompassed all the major Californian youth fads of the day: roller skating, disco, surfing, car customizing, etc. However, despite all of this and the presence of teen idol Jimmy McNichol as Vince, California Fever didn’t take off. It was canceled after less than three months, ending its run in December of 1979."

I owe you a cyberpint Mr Tabact!

EDIT: Looks like I was miles out on the ID of the car. I don't even recognise that monster in the YouTube clip.

And before I put this one to bed, because it was obviously a total pile of shit (see theme tune for proof

), looks like it had that actor in it who played Sandy's 'jock' boyfriend in Grease ('too bad his brains are in his biceps').

But being 1979 California it would have been rammed full of decent kit like CHiPs was, lots of Datsuns and Toyotas and VW squarebacks and the like.

Not that we will ever get to see any of it, ever again.

The End.

I have to say that that one totally passed me by....never heard of it....but watching the opening credits I see it starred a very young Lorenzo Lamas who went on to appear in Falcon Crest and The Renegade.......and Jimmy McNicholl, brother of Kristy McNicholl who were quite big 'teen' stars in the late 70s.

I DO remember 'The Hardy Boys And Nancy Drew'' TV show...it was quite a favourite of mine on a Saturday tea-time.

The very same fella that was in Grease. Not seen any subsequent programmes.

His website shows he's mates with Adam 'Batman' West and Paul 'Pee-Wee Herman' Rubens.

That'd make for a interesting evening, the pub car park could contain a Grossmobile, Batmobile, and Austin Metropolitan.
