BMC Dan Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Ok so we have the ebay bargains thread for comically overpriced internet finds, but what about vehicles for sale that you've seen in local classifieds, at shows, parked up in the street etc that have been up for miles over their normal going rate? One car I know of near me is a 1966 Humber Hawk that's been stood in a council lockup the best part of 30 years after one of it's radiator hoses burst. It's owner, a painter and decorator got it as payment for a job back in the 70's when it was still in the 'worthless old barge' category. I heard about the car through a friend who runs a Wolseley 1500 as a daily, and was recently asked by the owner to try and get it back on the road, but on inspection the body and chassis were totally shot where it had been standing so long. Also attempts to get it running again failed due to the aluminium carburettor being badly pitted. Me and my dad thought it might still be worth getting if only a couple of hundred quid in order to break for spares and to save the owner wasting more money on council rent, but when we phoned him about a month ago to try and arrange a viewing he instantly stated that it was worth £2000 as is, also informing us that the vinyl front seat (which he was convinced was leather ) was worth £400 alone.
