pompei Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Look at this! http://www.vintageadbrowser.com/cars-ads-1960s

boobydoo Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 When you look at those ads and see the progression of design through the the decades it confirms for me that the 90s were such a dull era for car design. This just sums it up: I can't even be bothered to yawn, looking at that.
Guest Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Strange to think Ford handled the import of this
eddyramrod Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Why is that strange? It used the Mustang's engine, so it made sense for servicing. Plus I think Ford had quite a stake in de Tomaso at the time.

How would it have sat with the yanks who saw Fords as only Pinto's and Mustangs depending how old they were?.
eddyramrod Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Ford sold it as a luxury model: note the ad says "Imported for Lincoln-Mercury" which were Ford's top two lines.
Guest Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I don't think the 70s American public saw Fords as just Pintos/Mustangs, they had a fairly comprehensive range going right up to full-on luxury cars like the LTD and Thunderbird. Not to mention their Lincoln/Mercury off-shoots. I don't think the Ford connection would have sounded particularly daft, they weren't really seen as a budget make.
