Motoring Mayhem - The Sherpa Shines through

Well, it has been an unforgiving few weeks for many factors in my life.

The dog died, my contract ended and the search for gainful employment is still on going.

Motoring wise it has been chaotic and expensive -

1/ Wife's 850 - thanks to the best example of unecessary egocentric civil projects since the pyramids - aka the Edinburgh Tram project slurping every spare pound, and quite a few others of road budget into it's failing maw the 850 needed suspension work for the MOT - £300 quids worth - not happy

2/ Some little scrotes tried to nick my 205 Gti - the car is still off the road and waiting the decision by the insurance company as to whether or not they will foot the bill for fixing it or will write it iff

My wife has been using the 240 wilst the 850 is off the road so I have been using the camper as a daily driver - the more I use this vehicle the more and more I love it - the sheer toughness of the van really impresses me. OK, you get a bit of rust here and there but these old sherpas are ladder built and tough as boots. The 1.8 B series whirrs away up front providing ample power for the suspension and steering set up - what I love most about it is the more and more I use it the better it gets.

If you recall my first post - the terrifying drive from Cornwall to St Albans - it is like a different vehicle now - ok I have got used to it but the steering, suspension, brakes, engine are all better - goes to prove how much older cars need to be used no matter how well laid up. The economy is great and what I really like is that mechanically parts are readily avaliable - local factors has all the consumables in stock as well as dizzys etc and fixed beam lights I'm also getting around 35 mpg which when you consider the weight of the thing and the modest size of the engine is not bad - MGB engine it may be but no twin carbs here!

Next week I am going on a trip from Edinburgh to Egham - to save money as I am currently without income, I will be taking the camper van. A quick visit to the factors saw me buy: spare points, condensor, coil, rotor, sealed beam for £35 quid including VAT and quality items not the usual chinese rubbish - well chuffed!

So good is the Sherpa that I am seriously considering selling the Torslanda as being surplus to requirements - if anyone is interested - let me know!

Wish I could potter about in a Sherpa all the time.

That is my dream. [saddo]
