Pugrot 407 question

hi Shiters!

Quick question: my pal has just got a 407 HDi saloon, which needs rear pads. Do any Shiter know can I just push the caliper pistons back in, or do I need one of those wanky wind-back things?

On the other hand, it could be that it's typical French Engineering, and you have to remove the engine through the exhaust while standing on your head and singing Je ne Regretet Rien backwards?

If anyone know, I'd be grateful.

PS 407 looks GR8 4 doggin!

Not a definitive answer but on the Citroens you just push them back on the back as the handbrake is on the front.

Open the bleed nipple to avoid forcing mucky fluid into the ABS bits!

Peugeot may not be the same but AFAIK it is the presence of the handbrake gubbins that dictates whether the wind in or not.

Cheers for that myglaren. Looks like it is a windback job. Fucksticks.

You might not need a special tool to wind the piston back, you don't on the C5.

Beware though, one the C5's pistons has a left hand thread and it's possible for a cack handed individual to wind it off the thread. The official forum advice in this case is "it's fucked". The advice was wrong, but it spoiled a day that was already going quite badly.

Cheers for that Richard. This was a lefthand thread too, on the basis that I wound it clockwise to get it in. 'Course, that could be t'other way around!

Anyhow, it's done now, not too bad a job all in all. The Mintex pads had stuck-on rubber anti-squeal shims, and at £19 all in, not the dearest either.
