Sounds like you might have got a good one....heres hoping!!

This was mine 3 odd years ago, waterpump and front damper where the only things that went wrong.Oh and the small battery in the dash that can mess up the tacho, something like that if memory serves me!!

Bought it off ebay without viewing it,something I said I would never do but it turned out to be a great car.

325 manual,limited slip,black leather...nice.

Hey, that looks like a nice one you had. Did you have any overheating/HG troubles?

I haven't yet, touch wood.

I like driving mine, in fact, I am really enjoying driving a solid, well build car for a change!

£1100? My mate's just been quoted £1400 for an M42-powered E30 318is...

That's just stupid. To take the head off takes about 2 hours and whilst you're at it, it makes sense to take the timing covers off and replace the chain, any worn sprockets and the lower sprocket guide bolt.

M42 heads are known to crack once they've had some overheating action and they can't be repaired. I ask (and get) £130 for a good M42 head.

If I were asked to do an M42 h/g, I'd be quoting £500 all in including the gasket and stretch bolts but with the proviso of another £130 for a head.

Still half of what those other clowns are asking though.

Tourings were built in another factory to the saloons and tend to rust less. The 2 litre M20 is a good little engine, very smooth and revvy. Head cracking is rare these days - the giveaway is oil and water mixing.
