Cavcraft Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Oh well, found the 'fault' with the Passat. It's been taking on water in the o/s/f and (mostly) o/s/r the likes of which would probably stop the local water drought. Google reveals the pollen filter 'cleverly' exits under the driver's seat and when the seal goes it leaks water. So I had a look under the bonnet and that's when I found the problem: The previous owner had fitted a turbo boost gauge (no, I don't know why either) and not only did he fit it to the wrong pipe so the gauge doesn't actually work, but he removed the grommet around the bonnet pull cable leaving about a 1/2 inch hole. Tried a quick bodge then shut bonnet and watered the windscreen. Et voila, one fucking river of water running into the driver's footwell and then spreading back. Why do people fuck about when they haven't a clue what they're doing?
ashmicro Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Why do people fuck about when they haven't a clue what they're doing? I ask myself that almost every day, Billy. Good result for you though. You have PM
chester drawers Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 If you’ve not done so already (if it's a B5 series), it’s also worth removing the plastic scuttle panels and checking that both drain holes are clear. One of them is conveniently out of sight under the battery tray. Genius
Cavcraft Posted July 23, 2010 Author Posted July 23, 2010 Thanks. Taking battery off soon because it's recommended when taking the heater out which I've got to do to change the bushes, so will check drain holes at the same time.
