Living to fight another day!

Eldest sons partner has a 2011 Audi A3 2.0tdi with about 240k miles,so virtually a "high mileage hero".He resolutely refuses to let it die,or her to kill it.Phones me up Friday afternoon to say she'd reported it leaking oil everywhere.Found that some of  the driveshaft flange bolts had come undone and the double washer type thing had cut a neat slot in the gearbox.I phoned the clutch and gearbox place that did MrsDs Korando for advice and they suggested chemical metal, adding that anything short of another gearbox would be a bodge.Whilst I'm doing this, he's trying to get a bolt and washer kit, which eventually comes from the Audi place, just before they close at 4.30.Getting the drive shaft out for clearance the thread on the bolt strips. He's got a new bolt but the thread in the driveshaft end is damaged. Also there's a hole punched in the metal cover, causing the black CV joint grease to be flung out, adding to the mess.New driveshaft then.A local parts place has one and I get there just before 6 o clock closing to find it's actually at another branch that's closed already. They can have it there for Saturday morning though.Collect it next day for him as she's taken his car and find he's cleaned everything up and filled the hole. He's now got the front off the car fixing a coolant leak that had been evading him for a while and he spotted whilst underneath.Anyway, gearbox is refilled, new shaft fitted and coolant leak hopefully fixed along with a new coolant bottle he'd bought but never fitted, and car is back on the road within 24 hours to await its next calamity.Despite the miles the engine sounds and runs well so here's hoping a few more miles.
