Micra roffle - 6 years on

Thread revival! I've owned this since shortly after the roffle. It was kindly offered by The Moog after I requested a car to work on with my son who was around 12 at the time.

We changed the cross member, my son replaced the front discs and pads, fixed the window winder, and serviced it. We used it for autotesting when he was 14.

It's had a few jobs done since but nothing major, washer pump, a water pump and aux belt, a set of steels, recent new tyres, arb links (changed by my son a few weeks ago), another service, and we're about to add a rev counter (sticky pads, not drilling the dashboard). We plan on refreshing the suspension too, although it's not too bad. Also, a stereo and new speakers.

It's still has the dent on the bonnet and still has patina. I bought a polishing machine and will get rounds to it at some point. The bodywork is holding up well. A slight bit of rust to the rear bumper mounting, and some surface corrosion underneath which we will treat with bilt hammer products, already purchased.

Somewhere broke in and dented the drivers door lock so we fitted a Chinese remote engine cut off, an alarm, and a steering lock. Again, a new mat set. Thank you Lord Sterling for the latter two items!

It's a lot of fun and as was noted above, this thing really does fly, especially up to about 40. Easy to annoy a lot of faster cars around town.

We took it to a Micra meet at caffeine and machine but arrived late so we were the only one there (see photo).

My son has his driving test in a two months so we've been out in it a lot so he can practice. He will then drive it as his first car.

We don't plan on selling it. It's so simple to work on and for a 28 year old car it can still provide fun and reliable transport. Also, my son wouldn't let me..!

I know the feeling jcr (see my post about letting my Jag go) but rest assured we take good care of it and will get any work done to keep it on the road for a long time to come 🙏
