Been a major blaze burning there since 5am. I tried to get up to Hitchin this morning at 7.30 and the road was closed and Police say it will be closed for the rest of the day.

 

No idea how bad the damage is or if anyone has been hurt.

NO fewer than 100 firefighters from across Hertfordshire are battling a major blaze at a second hand car dealership between Welwyn village and Stevenage.

 

The fire at Rush Green Motors in the village of Langley broke out at about 5am, and two buildings containing tyres and scrap metal are still ablaze.

 

Fire service spokeswoman Lara Hejazi said: "The fire is steady but under control.

 

"Some containers in the buildings have been safely removed.

 

"There was a problem with a shortage of water so firefighters have been using longer hose reels and shuttling in extra water.

 

"Fortunately nobody has been hurt."

 

Firefighters have been called to the scene from as far away as Rickmansworth.

Ha! That article was written by my mate Alex Lewis! He used to be a taxman before becoming a local hack.

 

Shame he doesn't know the difference between a car breakers yard and a 2nd hand car dealership though.
