grizz Posted May 13 Author Posted May 13 Small job to prevent heartache later. I removed flux from a welding rod to create a 1.5mm filler. With both sides welded. Finished the metal off. Then filler. CHUFFED !! . MrBig, Westbay, Dick Cheeseburger and 5 others 8

grizz Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Disassembling the load bed turned into a two day job. I had intended to remove the plywood floor to get bedsides, front panel, steel wheel tubs and support structure cleaned up I subsequently decided that I will be clearing and cleaning them myself. 90% of the fasteners were rusted beyond disassembly so Mr Grinder came into the game. The worst thing to find out was it actually has factory welds keeping the bedsides and rear brace welded together with really awkward welds. Video shows the process. grizz Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Ready for the next quick video and progress pics? I am about a month behind on reporting as I have been busy. 2.00pm here and not done anything yet. Bought food and spoke to a few people in the shop but my pickup line game is weak today. Maybe I get lucky another day. . SilverMachine and MrBig 2
grizz Posted May 16 Author Posted May 16 Sorry gang. Got distracted last night. Chocolate binge. So the Bonnet or Hood is another massive piece of the C10 puzzle. Certainly a two person lift and carry. I needed to do some more disassembly of the wiring and waterworks as well as removing some braces before I could get to the back to clean it up. ALSO……. There is a hole and hood ornament fitting on the front end of it that I wanted to close up with a weld and some plate. I will admit to to adding some newly created words to my dictionary in the process. You will see my struggle in the video. 93fxdl, Westbay and SilverMachine 3

grizz Posted May 18 Author Posted May 18 Time for more updates? After dismantling the rear bed, my first experiment was to try cleaning the rear wheel tubs. Made of metal, originally painted in body colour I guess bare metal is the answer. Being as it was a working truck, the coats of black underseal covered a load of dentsvand damage. Heat gun, Knotwheel and DA followed by hammer and dollies and then some primer tp get it covered. Lastly…….. Filler and 120 grit More primer and up to 320 grit to prep for paint. Some time in the future. . Westbay, SilverMachine and 93fxdl 3

grizz Posted Tuesday at 12:07 Author Posted Tuesday at 12:07 A few flashback pics. So a long time ago I was stripping down the truck. And I welded up a bunch of holes inside the cab at the time. Harley was one of the cats here. Made 17 years of age. She was not bothered with machines and would sit tucked in where I was working. I have been back at them. And just about ready for primer. . grizz Posted Thursday at 06:31 Author Posted Thursday at 06:31 So this picture was taken the day the front fenders came off. At the time I didn’t realise how prophetic it was to be. A random page from an old diary to show the contrast of the holes rusted through implied a world of pain. After blasting and etch primer I was given back the scrap remnants of the fenders and forgot how bad they were till I fetched them back a few weeks ago. After the initial shock and some investigation, I realised I had little choice but to fix them. QUESTION IS……….. Are you guys/girls ready for three episodes of pain and the accompanying footage of me trying to recover what was left of my mangled fenders?? A whole world of pain. . 93fxdl 1

grizz Posted Friday at 08:39 Author Posted Friday at 08:39 So we are now at the point it gets interesting. Well, for all those who look but never make the effort to comment or interact. Thanks to those who do though. The fenders have two aspects. Front and Rear. Rust repair, using Taiwanese stamped panels is probably the easiest way for me as good replacement parts are unobtainable. Or would be eye wateringly expensive. It is a two part job. Repair or replace part of the rear mounting brace so as to have a reference point. Using reference marks and measurements. Once that is cut out, spot welds drilled out and the replacement cut and shaped to size, you tack weld the brace in place. Check measurements again and again. Adjust if needed. Then you’ll flip over, decide what size patch is needed. Measure, mark, cut, pray, weld, grind etc…… You also need to do a load of dint repairs, hammer and dollie work and literally spend hours chasing dents and straightening out the panel, filling old holes etc Stuff you don’t see in photos And that concluded day one of many on these fenders I would say patience and resilience are needed as it’s really easy to become resentful or bored, pissed off at this job My new cordless grinder arrived as well as I was preparing the fender The video here is one of three just on the wings Westbay, 666jjp, GlenAnderson and 2 others 5
