whose foot is that 😱😱😱😱

This one??

One of mine…….. Both were bad, this worst.

Ahhhh yes.

Both feet but right hand is worse.

I think a combination of being a fat, overweight, unfit bastard (I said it) and previous historical injuries to both legs and feet, combined with being essentially confined to plane seats for about 11 hours because the staff doesn’t approve of a lot of moving around during flights……. Then add to that, daily screen time in a truck of between 5-11 hours a day, covering vast distances and standing around in workshops, fields, in the heat…… and your bodies natural muscle pumps are not getting to work as they do when you get home or are at home.

Then…….. add walking around in pastures and fields at Andy’s and other places and having a variety of fauna and flora get to your unprotected ankles…….

I usually recover fast, but this year it carried on another two days after I got home.

Chiggers may have been to blame in part.

Anyway…….

Swelling was down by last week.

And on a watch what I eat type diet.

Chubby is not good.

Totally. Monster Munch.

Weird that both of us have won roffles.

His win is a win though.

So back to the next day.

I had that job interview for an ophthalmology specialist job. The lady said my CV would go forward. But it seems the sales manager who is a part time Magistrate of Justice of the Peace did not like what he saw. Declined once I was back in England.

After the interview, Andy took us and the rail spikes we had bought somewhere on the trip in a junk store, into the forge.

We forged 6 blades.

Knife forging video story.

Then I started shaping one, and two of them and Craig got a lesson in broom making, using Andy’s machines from the 1800’s to make his wife a broom.

Lunch was good, interrupting my shaping etc.

Waitress was pretty

Massive portions of everything.

Andy’s kids portion was stil more food than he chose to have.

Craigs and my left overs were a lunch for the two of us in the truck the Saturday when we headed home to Dennis’s house.

Again………

Hospitality and friendships were at the forefront of this visit.

Every time I leave Andy’s place I feel like I’m losing something.

Thank you @oldironfarmer and Carol.

Two lots of photos from Michael Hutchens workshop and yard before we get to some random metalworking photos.

Sorry. Not sorry.

Bored ???

Andy has various stockpiles of materials for use in his various projects.

Old brass water meters??

Yes, he has a pile of them for casting.

Craig was more interested in the lovely glass fronted internal parts.

So we dismantled quite a few for repurposing.

More cars, I am sure they will all be built at some point.

In the meantime I will just enjoy them being there.

Hopefully nobody’s bored yet.

Next up, some photos from the smithing workshop and broom making.

I don’t expect anyone to understand the absolute pleasure derived from getting dirty, potentially hurt, while seeing something useful come out of a pile of parts.

These road trips are incredible schools to learn from.
Either seeing, watching, discussing or doing something new or educating yourself or other people.

Life truly is good.

Remember this.

More shaping, grinding, grinding, grinding, sharpening, polishing

Knives take a bit of time to get looking like anything.

But rewarding in the end.

Total of 6 shaped.

Every single one different.

Including a left hand spiral for Craig who is s leftie.

And one for his son to shape at home.

Perfect gifts in my opinion.

The smell certainly is intoxicating in a caveman kinda way.

With Andy starting it all up using old engine oil it is a smoky, choking mess but turns good soon

Yes, the feet become an unpleasant thing.

Saturday morning we had breakfast at And’s and then went over to Carol’s house to say our goodbyes to them both and the dogs.

What a great few days in Oklahoma.

We both agreed that a week would still be too short.

Andy and Oklahoma hove so much to do.

Uneventful trip back to Dennis’s home.

Incredible steaks for dinner.

Sunday we nearly all had a hernia, manhandling some massive tool cabinets off and onto the Kawazaki Mule

Later we played on the lake, pulled and pushed on the Chevelle and got the rear welded in.

Relaxed evening

Monday was going to be an epic day.

No, scrub that, I don't want to know!

Glad the feet are improving

Feet are good.

Knives…??

Being of sound mind, I think I could buy much more lethal knives at Tesco or in fact in my kitchen drawer there are 9” and more blades.

There comes a time when common sense will tell you that a good feather pillow is as lethal as a 12” blade.

That logic is what I hope will prevail in this case.

Eternally optimistic.

Quick change of pace.

Last bootfair of the year locally

Tempted to stay bed. 4’C outside when I got in the car.

Found a bunch of Hotwheels and other toys about £2.00 and a Unimog missing a tyre for £1.00

I now have two of them in different colours. Had never seen one till this year. They are older style toys, hence removable tyres.

A pair of “heat resistant gloves” £1.00

Two Star Wars coffee mugs for a friend’s daughter for 50p each.

And my final two purchases

Orange pair of Magnusson pliers to attach by string to my one spare Halfords hydraulic jack as the pumping handle is not the correct item and cannot release or tighten the pressure valve.

That was 50p

Next up a bunch of lads with a Transit pickup and a load of crates with various prices.  £10, £5, £3, £2, £1, 50p per item. Containing hammers, screwdrivers, etc.

I bought 5 items from the £2.00 per item box and two for £1.00 each.

Offered the guy £10.00 and came away with these

Back home I used some Elbow Grease and boiling water to clean them.

Weird pairs of pliers and an adjustable ratchet. Never seen one before.

I hate bootfairs these days due to the sheer volume of junk but sometimes they still surprise me.

Till next year.
