grizz Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 Wild wishful thinking…… My neighbor needs as many as three of these horns for three pre-1940’s Triumphs he is restoring. Started with one, bought a donor and found it too good to break, followed by another and has three in varying stages of restoration. One problem he has is finding one, two or thrre of these horns. PM please if you have something or a lead. Thank you.
grizz Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 Etch primer Welding Primer Got it all going on. Bit of this bit of that. Photos. I decided to weld up the arial hole. Had to find some 1964 Chevy steel from Martins old inner wings. Unfortunately I have given a lot of my metal away when people needed it. Then got some primer on as well. Then started to air DA the cab…… its a hard gig. Very pleased to have made it this far. Thanks to so many of you for supporting or motivating me. . 93fxdl, Jenson Velcro, Brachunky and 1 other 4

grizz Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 An internet forum friend made the comment below. I really do forget about some of the things that I have done over time. Nice reminder for me when I get the feeling that I have wasted a day, like yesterday. Despite being busy I had nothing to show except some satin black paint hardener and two airline fittings for $45.00 or £34.00 Having carried a bunch of parts out, it was cold and windy so two hours later I packed everything in again. grizz Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 Saturday morning. Been out getting some food but main thing was investigating a sand blasting company 15 miles from here. Turns out he only does heavy duty stuff. So he recommended another company that may be better suited to the rest of the panels that are left over. I will include a pic of the dimensions of what has to be done. 2x2 means two sides to two items. 2x means an item like the bonnet/hood has to be done on both sides. Metric measurements……. Want that in Imperial?? Try Google 😉 I am hoping the parts will fit in the rear of the Astro van. More bodywork prep. Grey primer on a bunch of parts. I am using the grey primer as a baseline for the next step which will be Filler Sanding Filler Sanding Filler Sand……. You get the picture. There is tons of work to do but I like to try create a few pieces that work together. Almost like a micro production line. One question I have is “How do body guys keep their hands clean “ Answers on a postcard please. And a few pics for those who fall asleep in the videos. Nice day out to mow the lawn. .

grizz Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 OOOOOHHHH PAINT !!!! I have been looking at, thinking of how to finish the final colour scheme on the truck. Red and white. There are various combinations of colour. I had originally wanted just a white roof top and a white flash down the side with red Rally wheels and aluminium grille. But there are other variations. Including a top half white cab, white grille, wheels etc. I will leave a few pics below. Opinions and observations invited. .
93fxdl Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Personally i like the white roof and cab back, provides contrast from different angles, the roof on its own dosent make enough of a statement and the complete white cab, looks like a half arsed white to red colour change. Alloy grill to provide an accent against the red Undecided on wheels but they are easy to change colours on, how about silver with some red pinstripes The side flash, does look the part, helps break up the expanse of red and reduces the work truck look Again these are just my observations and have no value in the real world Once you have a good foundation, a quick scuff and spray can always change things Ps its Filler, guide coat, sanding, filler, guide coat, sanding, touch up primer if you rubbed through Nitrile gloves i believe, keeps hands clean and grease from hands off the surface Ttfn Glenn grizz and Westbay 1 1

In red. No intention of getting it changed. Yet. It would cost up to £100.00 per wheel professionally. Got a non VAT quote of £75.00 per wheel yesterday.

Expand If you do decide to change the wheels, use the powder coating as a base and paint or pinstripe over the top, no need to pay to have them re coated, possibly scuff and paint with the same paint you are using on body to give an exact colour match. Wheels are a 1 day job so leave them till you have the truck finished and see how they suit the final build Ttfn Glenn Westbay and grizz 2

grizz Posted April 15 Author Posted April 15 For those who are interested Out of sync preview. Two days of work resulted in this pile in the photo below. But it’s worth it. Despite having to use three cutting discs to disassemble the four inaccessible welds pictured . Raining today, I may have some tasks, including 70 miles to fetch four 18” used wheels and tyres for my one lodger’s Nissan Navara over in Essex. Also wanted to go see if I can find a blasting company that can actually do my remaining panels without damaging them. They are irreplaceable over here in England especially so need to be managed properly. .
Westbay Posted April 15 Posted April 15 "They are irreplaceable over here in England especially so need to be managed properly. " https://www.performance-powdercoating.co.uk/soda-blasting.html The only way you are going to be 'comfortable' with the process is to do it yourself ... probably a mix of chemical and physical. Yes, I know it's a lot of work , but, should the panels come back damaged you'll be in a far worse position. Try it on a 'small' panel and see if you're satisfied with result before going the nuclear route ? Hope you are saving the waste metal to weigh-in , should be a couple of packets of biscuits there ! 🤣 grizz 1
93fxdl Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Are there any of those dip and strip outfits still going. Will get the paint off without risking physical damage, just need to be certain all chemicals are out of any seams afterwards. Alternatively try the poly disks or get a soda blaster and blast everything yourself Doing it yourself is time and faff, but does bring a whole new level to, built not bought Ttfn Glenn grizz 1

grizz Posted April 16 Author Posted April 16 Next up…. More rust repairs. Door corners. Multiple angles, compound curves, combination panels. Weld through primer, grinding, planning, CAD work. Some teeth gritting. You get the picture. I used half an inner fender as donor material Relief cuts, die grinder and tungsten carbide tips to recreate factory lines etc. Video is already uploaded on my YouTube channel Riangrizz I am really pleased with the final outcome of these repairs. Taking time and thinking it through helps as well. And being patient. . Landy Mann 1
