grizz Posted Wednesday at 15:28 Author Posted Wednesday at 15:28 Not touched the truck in about 10 days since repairing the door. But I have been busy. My garden, fixing the lane over the road because the local useless council are spending my taxes on 101 things that don’t benefit me. I have been looking for some railroad ties or sleepers to complete my secret garden wall, next to the little shed. Today I had gone to town to buy some stuff for myself and also for my one lodger who is from India and loves fresh chillies and some other things. On the way home I got a message as I was about to drive off, some cut sleepers that I was second in line for, were not collected. So I came home, got changed and headed out to collect. Then back, cut, sawed abd mde them all fit……. Job done. Really pleased. Of course this week nature also reminded me why life is good. Cactus, the mornong after the night before. A red rose, amazingly complex. Pink Poppy, Mutated beyond recognition. Life is Good. . auntiemaryscanary, Westbay, 93fxdl and 3 others 6

grizz Posted Friday at 07:33 Author Posted Friday at 07:33 I saw a minute 650 gram piece of Silverside beef on the reduced price shelf. Not by much though. But I have been in the mood for a bit of Biltong for a while. So I made myself a small dryer using a cardboard box and the heat source from my previous supersized custom box that I had discarded Processed the lump of meat, slicing it up, partially dehydrating with salt, washing with vinegar, gently drying it all, followed by my mix of spices that includes coarse ground pepper, fine ground cloves, crushed dry chillis, some Cajun spices and a bit of salt (probably not needed) Following this, I’ve skewered them all on a single wire and hung them in the box. After which I sealed the lid with some masking tape. Light switched on for the next 5-7 days. The strips of beef are thin. I will try to leave them alone for a few days. Then……. SHAZAM !! Photos below. Not to be confused with Jerky. See Definition Below. AI defines BEEF JERKY: Beef jerky is a popular snack made from thin slices of lean beef that have been cured, smoked, and dehydrated. It's known for its long shelf life, portability, and distinctive flavor, often achieved through marinades and seasonings. Here's a more detailed look: Process: Beef jerky starts with lean cuts of beef, like top round or bottom round. The meat is then marinated in a solution that often includes vinegar, salt, and other flavorings. It's then dried (dehydrated) using low heat, sometimes with the help of a dehydrator or smoker. Flavor: The marinade and smoking process contribute to the jerky's flavor profile. Shelf Life: The dehydration process significantly reduces moisture content, which prevents bacterial growth and extends the shelf life of the jerky. Nutritional Value: Beef jerky is a good source of protein, iron, and other essential nutrients. Origin: The term "jerky" comes from the Quechua word "ch'arki," meaning dried, salted meat. Variations: While beef jerky is the most common, other types of jerky can be made from various meats like turkey, chicken, and even salmon. AI defines BILTONG: Biltong is a traditional South African dried and cured meat snack, similar to beef jerky, but with a distinct flavor and texture due to its air-drying process. It's typically made from beef, but can also include other meats like ostrich or kudu. The meat is marinated in vinegar, salt, and spices, then air-dried for several days. Biltong is known for its chewy texture and savory flavor, and it's a popular protein-rich snack. Here's a more detailed look: Origin: Biltong originated in Southern Africa, particularly South Africa. Ingredients: Beef is the most common type of meat used, but other options include ostrich, kudu, and venison. The meat is marinated in vinegar, salt, and spices like coriander, black pepper, and cloves. Process: Biltong is air-dried, not cooked or smoked like beef jerky. This gives it a softer texture and a more natural flavor. Flavor: Biltong has a savory, salty, and often slightly sweet flavor, depending on the spices used. Texture: It's known for its chewy and somewhat tough texture, unlike the more tender and crumbly texture of some jerky. Nutrition: Biltong is high in protein and low in fat and carbohydrates, making it a healthy snack option. Westbay, MrBig, Brigsy and 4 others 7

grizz Posted Sunday at 10:22 Author Posted Sunday at 10:22 Bodywork Takes time. A lot of time. I started on the doors with filler. Using fiberglass impregnated filler as the strong base then regular lightweight filler. Doors are getting better for sure. And I have been learning. In the meantime I’m also getting a lot of yard work done Mickey may have discovered some railway sleepers up on the farm Not sure if they are part of a burn pile or getting collected They could mean more yard work though if available free of charge .
