Another strange one

Having seen the strange Sabra (thanks for ID!) I saw one of these in Grimsby - Daihatsu YRV Turbo

 

 

Bizarre yet somehow strangely alluring!

Quite brisk for a small engined automatic too. Think I'd sooner have an old shape fast Swift personally, but then they don't half rot!

Many of the YRV Turbo 130s have the decals removed by strange owners, though you can tell by some of the details - special wheels, bonnet scoop, rubbish-looking clear rear lights.It has quite a mad twincam engine with some kind of variable-valve-timing setup, pretty fancy really. Unfortunately it has some strange tiptronic 4-speed box as standard which makes it a bit of a strange proposition, they had to do that due to the strange setup meaning a conventional box wouldn't fit anymore or something like that.I like it though, it's probably the last truly mad Daihatsu we received over here. Believe it or not, Daihatsu actually still make loads of weird/mad/turbo cars, but we don't get them because I suspect the importer just wants the brand to die completely here so they can get rid of it. Nice work fellas!

Basic engine's the same as mine I think - transplants are doable, but I don't want an automatic 'box.
