Berties injector issues, Renault kangoo 1.9 1998

After standing for few months the little kangoo I bought off here is smoking and I think running on 3 cylinders. I took the injectors out and cleaned them they seemed ok, there was black shit in cylinder number two. Put back together and he is smoking like a Tommy about to go over the top.

This injector is the only one with wires going to it.

Is it likely to be injector or is Bertie suffering terminal illness?

Help please

That's the injector with the needle lift sensor, if the connection is bad or the sensor faulty it can cause poor running and smoke.

Thanks how could I check this? I really need Bertie to move due to impoverishment. He's not playing nice.

There are a few threads about the needle lift sensor on VAG forums, one mentions checking the resistance which should be around 100 ohms +/- 20, and broken wiring to the connector behind the insulation, also tapping the sensor with a spanner to see if it makes a temporary difference

How big a tap would be recommended, cos my tapping might involve sledgehammer very soon
