tommytwo Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I have a Mondeo Mk3 petrol and no wash/wipe action. The wipers work fine but the washers do not not work. According to the Wiki, there is a 20 amp fuse for the wash.wipe in the glove box fuse box, this is F94. It handles both wipers and washers and has not blown. Pressing the stalk with the ignition on, I hear no noise from the motor. I think my problem may be due to a bad earth connection on the washer motor. I have a Haynes manual on the way for this car but until it shows up, I have no idea where to look for the washer motor earth point. Has anyone any idea where it would be?
tommytwo Posted July 13, 2017 Author Posted July 13, 2017 Thank you Red5. I had the NSF headlight out this morning to find two rusty looking earthing point, 10mm bolts holding them. I cleaned both connections and tried again. Still no go so that was not where the problem was.. My next idea is to pull the pump and check if it will run from a battery supply. No time for anything else today as have been invited to a garden party this afternoon and I need the car to get there. Thanks again.
AMC Rebel Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 From memory these run in two directions so they aren't wired conventionally. They run one way for front and the other for rear screen. They are a common failure (the pump unit) - I had the one on my MK3 mondy changed.
tommytwo Posted July 14, 2017 Author Posted July 14, 2017 I had the washer pump off today and once it was off, I noted corrosion on the terminals so water had got in there. Cleaned up the two pins and tried it on a 12 volt supply and there was a spark, indicating a short. Being the inquisitive type, I cut the top open and had a look. It was a right mess in there and not repairable, at least by me. A new pump is on the way with a 3 year, 36000 miles warranty. Thanks all. red5 1
