Shite(ish) Van Bought for very little.....IT'S ALIVE!

That is a stupid way of getting the fuel out, unless of course its been nicked by persons unknown and not the previous owner, you can't get a pipe down the filler neck but usually on Vauxhalls of this era there will be a cut out in the floorpan just above the tank (where the rear seat squab would be) with a plastic cover that can be prised off or might be a screwed in plate being a van, then its a simple case of undoing the sender/pick up/possible pre pump unit (in case you need to find it) and you're straight in the top of tank.

More really* useful* info.

Well......Finally after pretty much 5 months solid off the road, My little Astra Van Lives!!!

It was the fuel pump that was borked, So, one fuel pump (Engine side) replacement later & a piece of fuel filler neck tube, all is good, She runs like a swiss watch.

Note to anyone with an older 1.7 cdti engined Vauxhall........If your vehicle DOES require a Fuel Pump (Bosch one) These ARE NOT coded to the vehicle! It is a mechanically driven pump, with an electrical suction valve, which is held onto the pump by x3 allen/torqx bolts.

DO NOT LISTEN to anyone who says that it is coded, IT IS NOT CODED TO THE VEHICLE IN ANY WAY. I had some fucking twat try tell me that it was coded etc & would cost for diagnosis & re-coding.

I bumped into some one I know about x2 weeks ago & happened to mention to him my van & it's problem. He told me to get the van to him & he will have a look. So, I duly got the van towed to him & he sorted it, no re-coding of the other pump, just fitted it & it started first turn of the key.

So.....Here, in all it's glory is my now running, Shiteish Van bought for very little.....Pictures taken before I cleaned it today.

Super bargain van, I hope it serves you right. All Vauxhalls used to be shit but since I got a Bedford van they're betterer than James Brown.

Thanks for the comments  :-D . That is why I wanted it on the road, because it is super handy for scrap yard trips, car parts collections, towing the odd car & the odd load to the local tip etc. & The Mrs can drive it no bother aswell if the need arises.

It drives 100% spot on, & has not lived a hard life. I am looking to get a set of Astra SXi alloy wheels & SXi front seats for it in future, but other than that...here is to another 166,000 miles with the usual maintenance  :-D .

If anyone who has one of these older 1.7 CDTi engined vans, My friend who sorted it said to test it, he bypassed the fuel filter & set up a manual hand primer, then manually primed it up & it started first turn of the key.....then cut out. He said he knew then it was the fuel pump that was at fault.

My last van this size was an old 2001 Escort van & as good as it was......the astra is like a rolls royce in comparison.
