Well I went down yesterday with daughters in tow and my parents to have a look - the idea was a quick half hour nose round followed by a shufty round Brooklands and its dead Concord. Well that went out the window.... Dick Turpins (£1.50 - 50% from last easter) Tunnel in Dartford was confusing the masses so after an hour and a quarter long crawl (normally half hour from my house) run we were moving  Anyway the upshot was we ended up there 4 hours with no fighting daughters

Sure its Techtuonic Disney stylee brainwashing, but christ its fun, oh and its FREE!!!

You have 3 floors of Mercs, the whole range from A class to S class coupe's, AMG's stuff and the big 4x4's (no Gelander wagons alas). And everythings open to play with, kids are not daft and even the most car hating youngster (which mine are the opposite) wants to sit behind of a big flash new car with loads of buttons to press.

My girls liked the CLK simulator, where in 3d animation you are a CLk that is pressed, welded, painted and so forth while your seat goes up and down, daft but fun. There is your obligatory Moss/Hamilton altar, with the left over display from Goodwood housing the prewar supercharger & F1 cars, Grosse Mercs, Gullwing, etc.

Basically how motorshow stands seemed as a kid sums it up. You have a reasonably priced cafe, and offers on demonstrations in any Merc you fancy!!! SLK? AMG C55? S class? Take your pick (£10 for a thrashed passenger lap, £50 for half hours instruction on the track and skid pans, both cheaper than the website so ring up if your tempted). You can even buy a new or used car there. I recomend wandering between the nearly new black AMG's with brand new tyres on all 4 corners, then glancing back at the black AMG's doughnutting on the skid pan ;)

The track laps are good fun to watch, with the big Mercs drifting, powersliding and doughnutting, with electronics off on the flooded skid pan. Anyone 1.5 metres high (5 foot) can drive an A class round the edge of the grounds too, so a return trip in a few years then.

Overall a car day out you can drag the rest of the family too, 5 minutes off J10 of the M25 - or trains and a shuttle bus go from Weybridge station.

They should get an art student to make a sculpture from rusty E Class front wings. The MB museum in Stuttgart is reckoned to be mind blowing.
