Anyone looking to buy a Starion? What are your opinions?

Is there any market for these cars? It seems as though they're rare enough (I haven't seen one for over a decade), but they're not really popular at the moment.Every person I have spoken to who knows what the car is has said they would absolutely love one, it's like the (very) poor man's 80's supercar.I'm gutted, but I've decided to sell mine as I'm skint and have nowhere to store it (the council have relocked my garage as I've got behind on payments for it).

It's a 1989 (or 1990 - it's an Irish plate RIL 4469) narrow body.

I'll post photos but will link to the for sale bit (as I don't think anyone wants to read classifieds on here!). It's a very nice looking car in very tidy condition!

Looking for less than 1k, I just want something to cover me for a bit as I'm skint!! I will cry if it goes, I've wanted one for over 10 years.

This really, really, really needs to go otherwise it's going to get towed away and disposed of (thanks to outside powers). :(

i've seen this Starion afew times when passing to go to a friends it would be a real shame if it were to be towed away an destroyedif it helps i have room in my drive. its better then letting the local council get ther hands on it an sending it to the Cars in the sky

Posted

Can the council tow away stuff off your drive? Thats sounds rather harsh.

Posted

No they cant tow stuff off your drive, but a friend of mine had his 635 csi hi-abbed because he parked it outside of his garage without tax(The garage was next to some local allotments)The council can give you a letter if they believe you have too many cars in your drive or garage as i found out when they asked me and my dad to get rid of afew cars. mind you we did have:Austin MiniSierra Sapphire 2000EMondeo Mk2Got rid of the Mini an they had no problem after that.

 Really? If thats the case then a few of us around these parts could have A LOT of problems.I'd be amazed if they had grounds to object to three cars that are on private land. And whats in my garage is my own business!
Posted

You have no problem if its Private landYeah the only reason they had a problem with it was because it was supposidly a "Fire Hazard" Thers no problem now tho we only got the Audi so no one can complain and as soon as i get some money in im considering purchasing a "Project car"Really interested in this starion tho, just need the money :(

I've heard that they can get shitty if you fill up the drive/front garden/back yard of your council house with old crap. Surely a different matter if you own the property though?
Posted

If you own the property all they can do is "ASK" you to maybe remove a car or two because they either think that the cars are close to the house and neighbouring properties making it a "Fire hazard"9 out of 10 times the only reason they send the letter out is because of a neighbour who complainsBut back to the starion !Some one has to save it

Wowee, thanks Minimad! Where about's are you? I don't think I could ever burden anyone with another car on their drive though? The problem is, I have a garage that is getting paid from my account and the missus has a garage that she pays for. Or I thought she had. I forgot she transferred it over to me not too long ago and I hadn't sorted out direct debit with the council, so they (rightly & fairly) changed the locks.I think it's a matter of paying the amount that's owed (I daren't wonder) - or, just cutting the lock off, and taking my car out. The gearbox is out, and there is also a Caterham-esque kitcar leaning against the wall, which I want to sell simultaneously (300 quid!)My pa has a big driveway (the Starion was originally parked there), but since had it resurfaced and I can't go anywhere near it! :D

MR STATION The scaffolding goes up tomorrow mate so Tonight would be best to bring it round If you found else were to safely keep the Starion Happy Days :)I PM'd you but not sure if you got it

WTF??? We currently have1 Ambulance (taxed)1 ex ambulance (untaxed)1 Mk2 granada currently now on a SORN)1 Mk1 LWB semi repaired under a tarp (no windscreen let alone tax)2 X scrappers, both with no front ends and one without engine and gearbox. (no reg plates let alone tax)All our on private land, and the council did try to write to us but whilst we were trying to decide what to do, we had a letter come for the neighbour at our address, which I honestly opened thinking it was for us. In a nutshell it said they had followed up their complaint, but as we had not replied, they could do nothing.

I guess it depends upon your local councin and how much of a ..."TWONK" your neighbour isWe had no problem were we previously lived with the array of cars we had:Audi 200Ford Granada x 3 (Single pinto, DOHC and Scorpio)Escorts ... ALOT !afew cavaliers an somethin' else i can never remember the name of But yeah we had no problems thereSo depends upon Local Council And Neighbours i suppose Thers no problems now as we only have the A4 infront

That does seem like madness, getting a strop on over 3 cars, but again if they were total crocks, on bricks no windows etc I could see their point. My view on this is, minimise the potential for grief!!!I -can- fit 3 cars outside my house, but I don't, and certainly vile-looking sheds or projects are stabled elsewhere. I would be miffed if my neighbours took the piss in some way, so aim to INCREASE THE PEACE

Yeah my neighbour moans at anythin'When it was last sunny (Not too long ago)i decided to wash the Car ..GUESS WHO COMPLAINED ?Thats right  My neighbour. WHY ?Because abit of water splashed into his drive. Unfortunatly water is not magnetic an does not stay on carsWhat can ya do 'ey ?

Posted

Blimey, unless you were using Jumbo the elephant to wash the car then your neighbour has a few issues.I agree with Pog though, minimise any potential neighbour conflict. I've currently got five 'on site'. 1 in the garage, 3 out front of which two are taxed and the R11 looks tidy enough and last one on the road as that is out an awful lot of the time anyway. No probs so far thankfully.

i totally understand what you guys are saying Hope Station contacts me soon Scaffolding goes up tomorrow and i wont be able to get The Starion in the drive :(

Posted

I would be happy to keep the peace, but the last straw was when the amby's windscreen was smashed, and it was parked on OUR land, not even on the street in anybody's way. After that, all bets were off, and the gloves.

Posted

Station  The scaffolding is NOT going up today (they made a mistake and sent the van else were)If you still want to bring the Starion round mate give me a callThanks Mate

OK, thanks mate! Sorry to mess you around, it's a pain in the ass just getting everything together. The gearbox is 'in', it's just go to be bolted up (I was putting a clutch release fork in).

Thusly:

Dont worry about it But guess what ... yes you guessed it SCAFFOLDING IS UP :(really sucks Sorry !Thers not even enough space to throw a can of coke down the side of my house

Posted

Ah, that's okay, I just couldn't co-ordinate getting a tow/fixing gearbox/putting air in tyres, etc.TBH, I think I'm just going to risk putting it outside my house (a sort of near private car park), and get it on the road. I'd love to just drive it for a couple of weeks in the summer, there are tonnes of nob-ends driving round in their 'unique' Audi TT's and Minis and would really like to be driving something that's really unique. :)

Looks good, my hunger for one of these will have to wait though as another project has come my way. Hope you find a home for it.
