warped* discs

Ok,so I pulled the driver's side wheel off and bolted the disc on. I could see a pad impression on the disc and hear it catch as it rotated. I removed the caliper and held a pencil in the caliper holder, which proved the disc was not rotating true or was warped. I removed and cleaned the surfaces of the hub and disc that meet and i also cleaned the caliper. The hub looked no cleaner after but I put it back together and the pencil didn't highlight it rotating out of true. I will test the caliper for catching later, i also cleaned the inside of the wheel too. How p***ing sensitive are these discs and hubs? The last disc may well have been ruined by an overtightened wheel nut after the garage did the CV joint as one of the wheel nuts was almost impossible to remove when I came to check the warping first time around.

So I have rebedded the brakes by abruptly slowing down but not stopping and then waiting for the brakes to cool. This has reduced the pulsation to little or nothing. So my conclusion is that pagid brakes are rubbish. I know they were out of true but they are just too sensitive and pick up thickness variations far too easily and I will try some other brand next time (or sooner if I get yet more grief)

Brake less hard, especially while they are bedding in - I've found the usual advice to do a few hard stops to be more harm than good

Clean the caliper bracket with a wire brush/file before fitting new pads, I'd also clean the hub in a similar manner rather than just wiping it with rags etc
