Skodafest, Stanford Hall. Sunday 29/5.

Being close to Stanford hall, Leics we drove over in the Autoshite purchased Skoda Favorit Silver Line to Skodafest organised by the Skoda Owners Club GB and prettty good it was too.

The promised sunny day didn't appear until later in the afternoon but that didn't spoil what was there. There were plenty of rear engined Estelle, Rapid and S110R. There was a pristine Y reg Estelle 120LE which warmed my heart as one of those was my first car.

There were plenty of post VW Skodas including commercials. I parked ours under the trees, joined the club and was made very welcome. Photos from the day.

I drove there in our Tipo and my son cycled there, both of us arriving when the sun started to show.  Nice to see a good selection of rear engined Skodas and a couple of older Octavias from the 1950s/60s. I did not see any Austin 7 box saloons this year in the adjacent show, and felt sorry for a solitary Sunbeam motorcycle owner who turned up for their show at about 2-30pm only to find that his compatriots had already gone home. Twenty years ago, the Skoda club used to join forces with all of the Eastern Block car groups at this venue, resulting in a wonderful variety of stuff.  The others have since migrated to hold their separate shows elsewhere, and of course time gradually depletes the number of survivors.

Skodafest was indeed a success again this year, I'm proud to be a part of it and honoured that my colleagues in the Club were raising money for Bullies Out in memory of my daughter Gail. The day was very enjoyable.

I went to it a while back in my Trabant.

I saw a rear engined, air cooled V8 Tatra and my life was made complete.
