SNAKE OIL RUST REMEDY ON SEIZED/KNACKERED 50 YEAR OLD CALIPERS

Yep, Bilt Hambers De-Ox is basically citric powder but with some dispersants in so it'll go through oil/grease and work a little bit faster.

But I just buy a 5 kilo bag of citric (15 quid) from the local brewers (they use it for making white wine or lager or some other flouncy shite), 5 kilos will make about 50 litres of solution, probably twice that if you don't mind letting it sit a bit longer, and you can keep reusing the solution until it goes dark green/gray when it's saturated.
Give your parts a quick degrease first so it can get to the surface - just a quick blow over with brake/parts cleaner will do, knock any loose stuff off with a wire brush to save your bath some work, drop it in.
Works better if the bath is warm/hot than cold but it'll still work if you can't keep it hot, just takes longer.

It's pretty safe for both hands/health (you can drink the stuff if you buy food grade) and plastics/rubbers, etc, but it will strip zinc/galv as well as rust (great, I use it to strip plated stuff for welding too)

Good tip this, providing the pace of your restoration is such that you can afford 12 months on de-rusting some calipers

Should be fine for most of us.

Anyone got any 10 year solutions for the rest?
