Hello fellow shiterists of the northlands.

I have spent the last 2 days cleaning and sorting the loom on the CX.Much success has been had, and many things are now multi bueno shineroo.

It now starts happily off the key.

But then it conks oot.

Sounds as if it is not getting fuel when you stop cranking.

Is anyone aboot over the long weekend who has a blue peter and a willingness to assist?

Teas/coffees and bacon/square sossidge will be provided!

Ans if we get it working we can have a play:)

cheers!

BOOEMPE.

I would, but it's so far away...

Could be ignition switch/coil/ballast resistor related too, that is, if it's not a knackered fuel pump.

Please, someone bring along a can of ether. Spray it in and if it runs, you've deffo got spark. If not, it's a leccy fault.

Aye.

On an Motronic engine that would point to fuel pump relay or speed/reference sensor (crank position sensor on later versions).

Meter, relays and sensors available to borrow if of any use.

Aye, It starts on the key but almost like the fuel pump switches off once you stop cranking.

Fuel pressure seems ok.

Really need someone who can check wires and tell me what I've reconnected incorrectly!

Where is it?

South Lanarkshire?

Is the fuel pump electric?

If so, does it have a relay?

If it is and it does bridge the relay or if no relay, feed it 12v independently and see if it keeps going?

Loss of signal from the crankshaft position sensor can also cause that. I'm better versed in the KE-Jet than the Motronic, but there is a way to bypass the signal input to the relay so the pump runs continuously. If it primes, then shuts off but is good otherwise I'd start by checking the sensor.

Its At my house, just off the m80. Re the fuel pump relay - there are many relays and most look the same-- its no e30 qhen it comes to fusebox/wiring layout.

I have a haynes book of lies and can try to find the fuel pump and run 12v to it.

fun!

That would be my first port of call.

I might have some time on Sunday if you don't get it running before then.
