1992 XJS V12, MoTd, 91K - £SOLD!

That actually helps immensely, thankyou - the budget and economy around 1992-1994 was pretty moribund so I doubt the 6.0 XJS got a price hike of any note. The Top Gear from the launch of the SEC said £95,000 and 500 SEC was £5000 less, so clearly they got that (very) wrong.

Interesting that the V12 would command a £23,000 premium over the V8. That's one hell of a markup! But then a C140 was /at least/ 50% more than an XJS. That puts a better slant on how I view the two cars.

The fact that the XJS is less well made than an entry-level W201 190E is beside the point...

(Also I think this means the SEC is not the most expensive-new car I've owned, as I know my 500SL was £77,000 from the original docs - someone got a very nice Valentine's day present).

I'll bet by the time he had fully specced the SEC it was more than £77,000!

I've been trying to find a list price for the XJS V12 in 1992 - I suspect it's half that of the 600 SEC (even 500 SEC) or 600SL and was probably the cheapest V12 sportscar you could buy at the time, but... can't find the info!

XJS 4.0                         £35'400

XJS V12 5.3                  Â£41'827

XJS 6.0 (1993)              Â£47'300

Mercedes 500S/SEC    Â£74'600

Mercedes 600SEC        Â£97'400

BMW 850Ci                  Â£67'225

Bentley Continental      Â£138'990
