moving citroen xm

Hi everyone. Seen a citroem xm 2.5td estate in a p reg foar sails locally. Problem is it has OMGHYDROPUMP failz. It could be rather cheap,and its about 10 miles away. 2 owner and tested till next feb with 71k miles. Mucky and full of fag ash. Is it best to cobble a pump on to tow it,get it low loaded which makes it uncheap,or run away screaming?

 

I am guessing these are still as low value as ever? Worth doing?

Got to be worth a punt at least. I would tow it very slowly,because if you try to lash a pump in before you take it home you could be in a world of pain. It is a Citroen after all. I have to say I'm a bit envious as I would love an XM. Definatly on my bucket list.

No brakes though i believe. Rigid tow maybes? Hmmmm

Defo use a rigid anyway. If it's sitting low you will struggle to get on a low loader or spectacle lift. Just remembered that brakes and suspension are linked. Is it an auto?

Be careful if you're going to tow it any significant distance, because without the pump running the car's suspension will be in"low" position. Aside from any danger you could do to the car's suspension towing it in this position, you'll have a great deal of trouble getting it around, as it will be sitting so low! Going over a traffic hump will be almost impossible, as will be some raised man-hole covers. As has already been said, the brakes will be totally inoperative (unlike a normal car, which still have some braking, even without the engine running) and it's a HEAVY car to tow. In addition, with the suspension at the "low" position the tyres may scrape the wings when you steer, aside from the steering being very heavy without the power steering working. Being a manual there's no danger to the box, though. 

 

Is there a local Citroën specialist who works as a mobile? Might be worth asking him to take a look & advise...

Ooooo minge. Sounds a huuuge pain in the arse then. Would rather fit a pump on the guys drive than bollocks it. Would that be a slap in the chops? He does seem pissed off he is letting it go,and i know people like to tell porkies,but if i was gutted,if someone was there for an hour or two then buggered off driving it,i would be miffed.
