stripped fred Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I don't wish to sound smug, but my coping mechanism seems to have been to stop buying utter shite. I didn't quite get it right with the little Sirion, as I paid a bit too much for it (given how rotten it was) and then stupidly spent money on it (new exhaust, caliper slider pins, winter tyres etc) and then sold it for sod all. Even worse, that deal included a shonky Maestro van - though I found that beast far more appealing than I expected. I can't say it's down to ability. I think I just got lucky (grabbing frantically at timber) with the XM, and the Nippa is so cheap to buy and run that even if I have it away, I'd feel up on the deal. (I'm not giving it away).I think some of this is buying with your heart rather than your head. I always go in to any car purchase with a determination to give it a proper going over but in reality I go on what it looks like, how much the owner has spent or previous history and how much I like the owner. I wish I could spend a good hour on the car but instead I'm only too keen to hand over the cash. Saying that I haven't bought too many lemons so it can't be all bad. I always find a few more things wrong with it when I get it home though. Oh, and some of it is just down to luck like you say, and whether the car likes you or not! CGSB 1
dollywobbler Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I think I was sensible with the XM. I'd always wanted one, found one that seemed ideal spec-wise (diesel, few toys) and I even went and took it for a test drive BEFORE handing over any money. Can't say I really still expected to own it 6000 miles and seven months later though, nor can I say that I expected it to be entirely reliable during that time. Bobthebeard 1
eifion Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 It's not remorse with me, as soon as I have it, I'm no longer interested, hence an XM on my drive with a flat battery (again!). Your black 3.0 V6? That's criminal neglect! FakeConcern 1
dollywobbler Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 I seem to have lost that 'desire for new.' I am missing the sheer joy of a long-distance collection caper, I must admit. Perhaps I should Shiply my car to a random town then jump on a train to go and collect it. Much the same thing really. Skizzer, xtriple, JohnK and 1 other 4
