SORN Help

Hi guys, just looking for some advice on SORNs.

Basic gist is my sister started suffering seizures circa 2 years ago, her licence was obviously rescinded by DVLA And her car parked off road and SORNed. She later went without any fits for over a year and had a medical and got her licence back, however before we could fix her car up, mot and tax it, she passed away.

We now want to sort the car out and dispose of it, however, although my mum and dad went through the process of filling in forms to some company who deal with notifying all the government agencies and HMRC and DVLA etc of her death and returning her driving licence and passport, I don't think the registered keeper on the V5 for her car was ever changed from her name after her death, so how would it work if we now tried to change it to me or my fathers name, would we be fined for not changing it out of a dead persons name at the time of her death or would be simply put that we have just became the registered keeper (which we would have anyway)

Also my dad had thought the SORN may be due for renewal, we think it was first SORNed May 2013 and can't recall my sister having to reSORN last year, some googling suggests that as of December 2013 any car already on SORN wouldn't need it renewed, it would just continue to roll until it was either relaxed or scrapped, does this sound right?

Also, on checking www.totalcarcheck.co.uk and the GOV.UK vehicle enquiry check it comes back that the car is on SORN but the car is MOT'd until 18th March 2016. Not sure why it says this as the car hasn't had an MOT since the old one ran out 29/05/2013, we are 100% certain it hasn't been mot'd as it has sat in a relatives driveway for 2 years and not moved, and we have both keys here, so how can this be?

Thanks for any advice.

In these circumstances I wouldn't worry too much about the DVLA - if they start acting like idiots, call them and explain the situation. Some humans do exist there.

Contact the DVLA using a telephone and explain. They may be twats some of the time but often they understand and will help you sort it out without fines or stress, you're not the first to have this sort of problem.

Thanks.

I am more than a bit confused as to why the Gov.UK site says the car is mot'd until 18/03/16 when it's not has been expires for over 2 years however.
