Peugeot 307 rear brakes.

Apologies for modern content question. A friend has asked me to service engine and change rear discs and pads on a 2003 Peugeot 307 1.6 petrol. Ringing round for spares today and I was asked if the car is one with rear bearings in the brake discs. Never heard of this before but apparently some are like that and some are just usual discs. Does anyone have an idea if this one will be rear bearing in brake disc or not? Hope it's not going to be a bastard of a job!

Thanks in advance

Won't know til you get in there . It actually makes the job nice as easy and of course you get new bearings and abs rings included . Can be bloody expensive on some tho . Renault tragics I'm looking at you

So if bearings are in the disc then they still easily bolt on and off with no pressing in needed? I've tried looking on Google and some say the early petrol ones are standard discs and diesels are bearing in disc

Just undo the hub nut and once the carrier etc out the way they should * slide off . Sometimes you will need a puller or slide hammer tho

I suspect yours will have built in bearings, being a later model. They should slide off with a bearing puller, but no guarantees.

From bitter experience, beware of the abs system- they dont have an abs ring, instead its a magnetic strip in the hub and a pickup sensor bolted to the steel brake carrier...

When you take the disc off, clean up any rust behind the abs sensor and this should clear any potential abs faults lurking!! (Rot causes the air gap to close up and knacker up the sensor)

I'm hoping its not going to be a pain in the arse, I don't get paid enough!

There's bloody loads of cars like this now with the bearings a sealed perma fix inside the hub assembly.

First came across it when my mates mk 1 Yaris rear bearing failed, genuine rear hub/bearing/drum about £225 from Toyota, he got a pattern part about half that price which was still bloody dear,  they're cheap as chips now, hopefully the 307 will be cheap too.
