forddeliveryboy Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Since the ex CEO of State Religion said we're in a post-Christian society (probably just to piss off Cameron, who asserted the opposite recently) I naturally related the comment to the cars we drive around in. Had a friend turn up in a Rover 90 at the weekend, I happened to remark it felt a bit like Going to Church, riding in the old dear. He seemed to find this very apt and asked what the modern equivalent experience was - I was a bit stumped, since it's such a non-experience. Told him I'd ask some mates, best I could think of was 'Pleasuring Oneself'. Don't think a Leaf or Insignia would get me that excited, though. What's a better answer?
eddyramrod Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 A day of Charitable Good Deeds followed by a well-earned relaxing hot bath and a gentle massage? So any halfway decent Jag or Lexus then...
lisbon_road Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I think the fun has gone from motoring and you're better off doing something else. That in a way is what drives us away from modern cars.
mercrocker Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Motoring is still fun in the right vehicle. Modern cars are shite is why I don't drive those things. Modern cities and modern houses are shite too. Answer - drive old car away from shite and towards old house. Don't know about church these days but my Cowley is like a 30s semi - not much luxury but everything you need, squashy seats and a delightful smell. eddyramrod and Doctormop 2
theorganist Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Well I drive my Princess to church every Sunday (twice). Sometimes the drive to church involves winding A roads and country lanes (if I am playing the organ out in the sticks) or a blast down a dual carriageway (if I am going to Bromsgrove)!
