Ford experts needed - seatbelt question!

After I inadvertently set fire to the one on the Stellar last week I'm on the hunt for a replacement. Given the heavy Cortina basis I'm wondering whether this would be a good place to start looking, but a Google image search doesn't really show one way or another. The actual buckles have Ford moulded into the back of them, and look like this:

I think this may be a Mk3 Cortina part from what I've found out, but not sure. The tongue is this:

The reel assembly looks like this - can anybody identify it please?

Obviously there may be a fair few belts that will actually fit, but a) I'd prefer to keep it original looking and B) I'm a couple of hours from a scrapyard to go looking for one...

I can't help in your search (except to say that mk3 Escort is different) but I can be 'that bloke', who says you should always strip the car out, or at the very least, the area you are working in, prior to any'hot work'.

Looks like you've been lucky!

Try PM'ing Sheffcortinacentre on here, he'll be able to help with an id and perhaps a replacement.

No Britax markings, but there is this tag. None of the numbers give any results on Google though :-(

I was actually welding the lower edge of a replacement sill, so thought the seatbelt would be OK - problem was all the Waxoyl I'd put in the B pillar years ago, melted and ran into the sill where it caught light. A quick blast with CO2 from the welder put that out, but I didn't know it had set alight to the belt until I popped my head up. Feeling very stupid...

I'd guess as your car was made in Germany as thats where your belts have come from, I think Klippan were the big continental seatbelt producer and seem to still be in production according to Google. I expect a British made Cortina would be using either Britax or Wingard branded belts. Both brands were made at the same factory in Chichester, but the designs were different. My grandfather worked at the factory and my father remembers him bringing batches of belts home and getting the family to assemble clips and adjusters on them at home in return for pocket money! Circa (1960's/70's.)

If you want to keep it original I'd scour ebay for NOS ones but they can go for scary prices. If you want to buy new I highly recommend Securon, they dont look out of place in older cars come in a variety of fitments, are well priced and british made. You'll find photos of them in most of my project threads.

I have a load of old Sierra belts which might help.  I do wonder if given that the car was presumably made much later than a Cortina, the belts would be different given that legislation and so on might have changed?  The Sierra ones sort of look like that - from memory - and I'd be glad to be shot of them cheap.

I'm pretty sure the aftermarket recoiling belts I put in my Anglia are old Securon ones and the unit and mounting looks nearly identical to your ex-belt. I got lucky and picked mine up NOS in a reductions bin, but I think they aren't very expensive anyway. They had them listed as replacements for Anglia and RWD Escort from memory. Wouldn't surprise me if Cortina and Capri share the same mountings too.

Thanks for the pointers, Sheffcortinacentre is going to check for me so if he has a match then it seems only fair to get one from him.

If I can't find one identical then this looks like it should click in but the pivot at the top looks different.

Would rather be safe than nothing though! I was surprise at how cheap they are TBH, so I might phone a Hyundai dealer for a laugh...
