I had a 51 reg 1.8 Sport.  With 130K miles, cost me £350.  in 6 months the  the rear calipers seized, the VVT engine made noises from the VVT shaft (I was advised by a specialist in Derby that it would eventually fail, but it didn't be cause the (Renault I think) gearbox went bang on the motorway.  I sold it to a Volvo breakers, because I was wanting to start using my old cavalier, and buy a mini 1000 for fun. They gave me £350 and probably fitted a gearbox.

 

Best bit of the car was the boot was massive.
