PSA HDI diesel automatic

Any one have extensive experience of these?  Am going to see and hopefully buy a 406 HDI 110 Auto tomorrow, trader reckons it's slow to accelerate from standstill but OK when it gets going.

 

I have driven one of these things briefly and they ain't no ball of fire, but I wondered if this was a common and obvious fault with them (and horrendously expensive etc.) Have read a bit on the net about cold diesels not being at their best but sounds a bit suspect to me.

 

Anything obvious to look for/test?

Ive been tempted by these especialy Xsara flavour ones .

I think that these have the AL4 chocolate gearbox

No I didn't in the end, my mechanic scared me off it.  I'm used to the fragile automatic box in these things, but combine that with a 135,000 HDI engine which apparently was a bit sluggish, and I decided to run away.  

 

Have bought something very un-carlo like though - details to be posted when I take some pics..

I have a Xsara flavour one (with three pedels) and shifts alright from first gear but it does seem to do it's best when accelerating in 3rd and 4th. As for 5th gear acceleration, forget it.
